New Feature: Dark Mode & Custom Themes
You asked, we delivered. Learn how to personalize your community experience with the brand-new appearance settings.

It was the most requested feature in our history, mentioned in over two hundred feedback posts: "Please give us dark mode." Today it is here — and it arrived with company. Alongside dark mode, we are shipping a full appearance system that lets you make the community look the way you want it to look.

Dark mode, done properly

Flipping a color palette is easy; doing it well is not. Our design team rebuilt every surface, border, and shadow so that dark mode is not simply an inverted theme but a considered one. Text contrast meets accessibility guidelines throughout, images no longer glare against pitch-black backgrounds, and the navy-tinted dark surfaces are calibrated for long reading sessions without eye strain.

Switching is instant. Tap the moon icon in the header — or in the member rail on larger screens — and the entire interface transitions. Your choice is remembered on your device, so the site greets you the same way tomorrow. Prefer to follow your operating system? Choose the system option and the community will switch automatically at sunset along with the rest of your apps.

Your community, your colors

For community administrators, the new Appearance settings unlock much more. The entire interface is driven by three brand colors — primary, secondary, and accent — and every button, link, highlight, and chart follows them instantly when changed. There is no rebuilding, no waiting, and no risk: if an experiment goes wrong, restoring the defaults takes one click.

Typography received the same treatment. Administrators can now choose from nearly two thousand font families for headings and body text, applied live across the whole site. Whether your community's personality is corporate crisp or playful rounded, the type can finally match it.

How to try it right now

  • Members: click the moon icon in the top navigation to toggle dark mode any time.
  • Administrators: open Settings → Appearance & Colors to change brand colors, fonts, and the default mode for new visitors.
  • Everyone: tell us what you think in the feedback forum — this system was built from your suggestions.

A note on what is under the hood, for the curious: the theme system is powered by dynamic design tokens, which means every color you pick automatically generates its own hover states, soft backgrounds, and dark-mode variants. That is why a single color change looks intentional everywhere rather than painted on.

This release is part of a bigger promise: the platform should adapt to your community, not the other way around. Appearance was the most visible piece of that promise, but it is not the last. Our roadmap for the next quarter includes more personalization for profiles and group spaces — and as always, the feedback forum is where that roadmap gets written. Go ahead, try the moon icon. We think you will stay on the dark side.

Finally, a thank-you to the beta testers who spent three weeks filing meticulous reports about contrast ratios, flashing transitions, and one particularly stubborn dropdown shadow. Forty-two of the fifty issues you reported were fixed before launch, and the remaining eight are scheduled for the next patch. This is what building in public looks like, and it is why features ship in the shape the community actually needs.
